Amela Abdovic
Director, Board

Amela personally understands the importance of RGW's mission. During the Bosnia war, she, a refugee girl, succeeded with help from organizations despite being separated from her family.

Amela was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia, and has since lived around the world in Slovenia, Belgium and Italy before finally settling in Toronto. She is a true global citizen, with her studies taking her all the way to Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai, China when she completed her MBA from the Ivey School of Business. With these experiences bringing her into contact with people from all backgrounds and cultures, Amela has developed a well-honed skill set that allows her to understand and empathize with those she interacts with, contributing to her success as a banking professional.

Leveraging her ability to understand multiple perspectives and connect meaningfully with those around her, Amela has progressively advanced in her career as a business professional in the financial industry. Her 17+ years of experience have been crucial to her ability to successfully collaborate with business partners across multiple businesses and initiatives, enabling her to drive results while maintaining and building strong and lasting relationships.

In addition to her extensive financial industry experience, Amela is profoundly passionate about giving back to the community and those she interacts with. From helping newcomers with financial literacy to motivating women with desires to lead and leap up, she keeps herself occupied, making an impact at every opportunity

Passionate about aiding refugee girls worldwide, she dedicates herself to RGW's mission of raising awareness and offering education, food, protection, and opportunities for a better future.
