Post-Quake Container Homes & Playground, Turkiye
In early 2023, southeastern Turkey was struck by a series of devastating earthquakes, leading to significant loss and displacement. In response, RGW acted swiftly, constructing a container community that includes 80 homes and a children’s playground, providing immediate relief to those most affected.
In the aftermath of the earthquakes, many families, already mourning the loss of loved ones, found themselves in cramped tents that lacked basic amenities such as clean water and proper sanitation. This dire shortage of habitable accommodations not only increased the risk of fire hazards due to inadequate heating but also heightened the likelihood of illness spreading among the community.
To address this critical situation, RGW set up 80 container homes in the Osmaniye/Bahçe district, designed for families of 2-4 members. These homes are fully equipped with essential utilities, including water, electricity, a kitchenette, and bathroom facilities, offering a dignified living solution that ensures comfort and privacy during this transitional period.
Understanding the psychological and social needs of children in such traumatic circumstances, RGW also constructed a playground within the community. This playground has become a beacon of joy and normalcy, offering children a space to play, laugh, and begin to heal from the traumas of loss and displacement.
As these families start to rebuild their lives in these transitional homes, RGW remains committed to supporting them every step of the way, ensuring they have the stability and resources they need during this transitional period.
