In February 2026, Refugee Girls Worldwide proudly completed the first phase of its Digital Empowerment Initiative by distributing 50 laptops to underserved university students in Swabi, Pakistan. This milestone marks the beginning of our long-term commitment, in partnership with VIG Computers Canada, to provide 1,000 laptops to deserving students at the University of Swabi and Women University Swabi.
For many talented young women in Swabi, ambition has never been the obstacle—access has. From medicine and engineering to science, technology, and education, these students possess the determination to succeed but often lack the essential digital tools required for higher education and research.
Among them are scholars like Faryal, a PhD researcher whose work depends on advanced data analysis software, and Sara Yaqoob, whose academic research requires reliable access to technology. Like many others, they have had to borrow devices or depend on limited university resources to continue their studies. For these students, a laptop is not simply a piece of equipment—it is a gateway to knowledge, opportunity, and independence.
The successful distribution of the first 50 laptops has already begun transforming lives, enabling students to conduct research, attend online learning sessions, complete assignments, and build skills essential for their future careers. These laptops represent more than technology; they symbolize dignity, equal opportunity, and hope.
This achievement would not have been possible without the generous support of Hameed Muhammad and our valued partner, VIG Computers Canada, whose commitment to educational equity continues to create meaningful impact.
While we celebrate this important milestone, our journey is far from over. Our vision remains to distribute 1,000 laptops to deserving students across Swabi, ensuring that financial hardship never prevents a young person from pursuing higher education.
Every laptop placed in the hands of a determined student has the potential to create lasting change—advancing research, strengthening communities, fostering innovation, and opening doors to brighter futures. Together, we are not just providing technology; we are investing in the next generation of leaders, researchers, educators, and changemakers.
